International environment ministers face crunch time on Kyoto climate promises

Environmental ministers from around the world will meet in Bonn this autumn to conclude important technical issues assisting the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol on climate change which was agreed in 1997. This follows a meeting in June, also in Bonn, of senior national officials. They discussed the three Kyoto "mechanisms," by which developed countries can reduce the cost of meeting the Kyoto commitments of reducing their greenhouse gas emissions by 5.2 per cent from 1990 to 2008-2012.
