Implementation of existing laws the main goal for 2009

European Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas this week pledged to make implementation of existing green laws a priority for 2009 in a statement on his Annual Policy Strategy to MEPs in Strasbourg.Mr Dimas told the European Parliament's Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee on 19 May that "adopting the necessary legislation is only the first step, our environmental policy objectives cannot be fully achieved if they are not fully and effectively implemented and enforced."
