Federal Highway, Transit Agencies Propose Revised Guidance on Environmental Reviews

Federal highway and transit agencies have proposed updated guidance on implementing environmental review procedures enacted under the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21). The proposed guidance, announced in the March 13 Federal Register, provides detailed advice to help transportation agencies navigate environmental review requirements that were enacted to achieve a more streamlined process (80 Fed. Reg. 13458). The process was first enacted in 2005 under the Safe, Accountable, Flexible Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), with additional revisions in 2012 under MAP-21.
