Technology allows remote and real time maintenance

A wireless live video technology has proven valuable in the maintenance operations and emergency management of Yarra Valley Water, whose assets are located over a wide region in eastern Melbourne, and include nearly 9000km of water pipes, more than 8000km of sewer pipes, 10 elevated water supply tanks, 40 ground-level water supply tanks, 62 water pumping stations, 72 sewer pumping stations, 43 water pressure reducing stations and 9 sewage treatment plants. When a major incident occurs on one of those assets, such as a large main failure or a sewage spill, field staff is immediately deployed to the site while an incident team is assembled at the head office in Mitcham to manage the emergency response.
