septuagenarian billpickering was instrumental in establishing the Society of Engineering Technologists within Engineers Australia. He and Denes Millitz helped form the National Committee of Engineering Technologists Australia in 1997. The society now represents 1400 member technologists of Engineers Australia.rnPickering currently serves on the Queensland state council of River Trusts, continuing to use his management skills in matters of strategic planning, group dynamics and technical assistance. With his electrical engineering background his current work with the Herbert River Improvement Trust includes the implementation of automation to two sets of floodgates using PLC controls.rnHe continues to work on a part-time basis providing technical support to local Hinchinbrook electrical contractors in the area of maintenance of equipment.
