You might not fall in love with the place but you are likely to be fascinated by it. The United Arab Emirates (UAE), in particular Abu Dhabi and Dubai, continue to come up with projects that can be described by superlatives - first, highest, largest, most exotic, most sustainable, fastest, richest and most lavish, to name a few. The Burj Dubai is the highest skyscraper in the world and the associated shopping mall is touted as one of the largest; Abu Dhabi's Masdar City project will be a world first as a showcase for sustainable modern communities; Dubai's Palm Jumeira with its Atlantis Hotel is one of the most exotic urban developments; and the main Dubai horse race is one of the richest in the world. Add to that some of the most prestigious sporting events as well as what will be, once constructed, one of the worlds most concentrated cultural precincts, and you get an idea of the scale of the metamorphosis this Arab nation has been undergoing.
