More action on STEM needed

In last month's EA magazine article 'Where is Australia's National STEM Strategy', I was quoted as saying that the issue of insufficient domestic engineering graduates has been "... recognised, analysed, worried about, and reported upon for the past decade" and that "it is time for action which can only come from a grand coalition of all interested parties, specifically governments, industry, professional bodies and educators". Why have we, as a profession, failed to cut through, and what should we, as engineers and Engineers Australia, be doing differently?
