We are used to new buildings going up in CBDs around Australia. And we are used to large-scale development projects on the outskirts of our cities. But it is rare to witness a large-scale development in the middle of a city. That is what is happening in Sydney at the moment with the Barangaroo redevelopment, a former wharf area on the western edge of the CBD. The project is being built in three stages: Barangaroo Reserve, the northern-most section which will be mostly parkland with an underground cultural centre; Barangaroo South, adjacent to the city and with all the tall buildings; and Barangaroo Central, in between the other two and featuring shorter buildings with a focus on community organisations.
