In anticipation of the centenary of Engineers Australia in 2019, Engineering Heritage Australia is developing a book covering 100 stories of Australian achievement. A small team has been working on the project for several years and have developed a preliminary list of subjects ranging from iconic projects such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Snowy Mountains Scheme and Indian Pacific Railway; through to innovative technologies such as the black box flight recorder, the Cochlear hearing implant and wi-fi; Aussie icons like the Southern Cross windmill, FX Holden and Australia II winged keel; and lesser-known wonders like the Julius automatic totalisator, Hobart's floating bridge and the Humphrey pump.
