LIGHT TIME TALES

Joan Jonas's exhibition "Light Time Tales" presents the largest amount (about 20) of her installations and videos ever, at HangarBicocca in Milan (until 1.2.2015) under the curatorship of Andrea Lissoni. Born in New York City in 1936, Jonas is a pioneering figure in performance and video art. She will represent the US at the 2015 Venice Biennale. The title of the show refers to aspects of the artist's production: projected light, the time dimension characteristic of her videos, and their narrative aspect. For HangarBicocca, she worked on the specificity of the large, dark exhibition space, which is arranged around three main videos. Waltz (2003) is pervaded by a subtle sense of irony with which Jonas questions her own role and the role of her aging body. Mirage (1976/1994/2005) is one of her most emblematic works, reflecting and returning to her own work as a subject, modifying and adding to them. Reanimation (2010/2012/2013) was originally a work-in-progress, then a performance, and now an installation.
