Inthisstudyweusedphotosyntheticpigmentsextractedfromspinachandpurplecabbagefortheirpotentialapplicationindyesensitizedsolarcells(DSSC).Pigmentswereextractedbydissolvingsmallamountsofeachoneoftheseplantproductsinmethanolanddistilledwater.Theextractionwasalsodoneattwodifferenttemperatures(70°Cand80°Crespectively).Thiswastoassessforthesolventthatpromotesbetterextractionofthepigments.Aparallelstudywasalsocarriedoutusingamixtureofboththesedyesin1:1ratio.Goodabsorption,about60%to80%wasobtainedforspinachpigmentsdilutedinmethanolinthevisiblerangebetween400-480nm,andbetween9%to15%forpurplecabbagepigmentsinthewavelengthrangebetween480-630nmwhenextractedusingdistilledwaterat80°C.Incontrast,thedilutedmixtureinmethanolshowsgoodabsorptionof20%and32%forwavelengthsintherange400-480nm.Solarcellssensitizedusingthesenaturaldyeswerestudiedfortheirphotovoltaicpropertiesbymeasuringcurrent-voltagebehavior.Efficienciesrangingfrom0.011%to0.0719%wereobserved.Mixtureofspinach&purplecabbagepigmentsextractedusingmethanolwasfoundtohavethehighestefficiencyof0.0719%...
