Biologicalelectrontransferisafundamentallyimportantreaction.Despitetheapparentsimplicityofthesereactions(inthatnobondsaremadeorbroken),theirexperimentalinterrogationisoftencomplicatedbecauseofadiabaticcontrolexertedthroughassociatedchemicalandconformationalchange.Wehavestudiedthenatureofthiscontrolinseveralenzymesystems,cytochromeP450reductase,methioninesynthasereductaseandcopper‐dependentnitritereductase.Specifically,wereviewtheevidenceforconformationalcontrolincytochromeP450reductaseandmethioninesynthasereductaseandchemicalcontroli.e.protoncoupledelectrontransferinnitritereductase.Thisevidencehasaccruedthroughtheuseandintegrationofstructural,spectroscopicandadvancedkineticmethods.Thisintegratedapproachisshowntobepowerfulindissectingcontrolmechanismsforbiologicalelectrontransferandwilllikelyfindwidespreadapplicationinthestudyofrelatedbiologicalredoxsystems...
