:Objective To evaluate the breast-sucking in mother's embrace in relieving pain of heel prick in neonates. Methods 〓Totally 100 healthy full-term neonates were assigned to the control group and the observation group, with 50 cases in each group. The normal procedure of heel prick was adopted in the control group. In the observation group, the heel prick was performed when full-term neonates were fed in mother's embrace. The pain level of heel prick was assessed by Pain Assessment in Neonates(PAIN)scale. The heart rate and oxyhemoglobin saturation in a resting state, before heel prick, during heel prick, 1 min and 5 minutes after heel prick were monitored. Results 〓The pain of heel prick was less severe in the observation group than that in the control group(P0.05). There was no significant difference in heart rate between two groups at different time of heel prick(P0.05). The level of oxyhemoglobin saturation in the observation group was higher than that in the control group during heel prick and 1 min and 5 minutes after heel prick, respective(P0.05). Conclusion 〓Adopting breast-sucking in mother's embrace can relieve the pain of heel prick and related oxyhemoglobin saturation decline.
