Abstract:Objective To analyze the potential risk factors of sharp injuries in nurses, and to summarize the related preventive measures. Methods The baseline data of 24 nurses suffering the sharp injuries were collected, including job position, occurrence time, etc. All nurses were followed-up after suffering sharp injuries. Results Most of nurses suffering sharp injuries were clinical nurse(22/24). The most common sharp instrument was infusion needle. Sharp injuries mainly occurred between 08:00 am and 12:00 am. The main risk factor was inappropriate withdrawal of needles. All the 24 injured cases were followed-up, and no one suffered from blood-borne spread disease. Conclusion Vocational training, standard operating procedures and improved occupational protection can contribute to the decrease of sharp injuries among nursing staffs during their duty time.
