Me and Research, It’s Complicated Reflections From an FMAHealth Fellow

amily medicine research is cru cial for strengthening primary care and improving populationhealth in the United States. Until ayear ago, I could not have disagreedmore. Housing the homeless, feeding the hungry—these issues seemedmuch more important for improvinghealth and more relevant to familymedicine. It took me nearly a decadeto accept that it takes research toidentify evidence-based solutions tothese socioeconomic problems. Yousee, after deciding to become a familyphysician, I actively avoided researchfor several years. By fnally welcoming research back into my life thispast year as the Family Medicinefor America’s Health (FMAHealth)Research Fellow, I’ve come to appreciate family medicine research forwhat it is and how impactful it canbe in advancing health and healthcare.
