Frequency and Pattern of Oral Manifestations and Oral Hygiene Practices among Cases with Diabetes Mellitus in Ajman, United Arab Emirates

摘要

Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic syndrome of heterogeneous etiology characterized by hyperglycemia which is due to insulin effect deficiency, and results in abnormal metabolism of fat, carbohydrate and protein. Diabetes is considered as a risk factor for oral health impairmentot on equal risk for oral complications which are mostly due to poor diabetes control, buffering capacity and cleansing of saliva is diminished, altered immune system.
