Cogitation on Occupational Stress and Social Support among HospitalNurses:aCaseStudyof ZanjanProvince, Iran

Despite extensive research on stress among hospital nurses,the important effects of support and stress on care qualityare not yet well established. Similar to other jobs, nurses facestress in their routine working day. The relationshipbetween occupational stress, social support and factorsrelating to each of them, among Iranian nurses areattempted to correlate. This cross-sectional analytical-descriptive study was carried out in 2013 in Zanjan provincewhere 248 nurses f illed the given questionnaires includingDemographic data, Work Factors, Nursing Stress Scale, andSocial Integration Scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS16.00. In our study, we found that the stress and socialsupport were signif icantly correlated.Our f indingsrevealed a signif icant relation between social supports andoccupational stress in nurses. Conclusively, support fromsupervisors and coworkers can help control nurses’ stress.In addition, both social support and occupational stress arerelated to three major components: job satisfaction, jobsecurity and others' attitude towards nursing. Therefore,creating a positive attitude towards nursing in society, and asuitable working environment for them is a way to increasetheir eff iciency.
