The Role of Motivational Interviewing in Depression and Psychological Well-Being in Mothers of Students Having Learning Disabilities
The effects of motivational interviewing on the minimisingof depression symptoms and improvement of psychologicalwell-being among mothers of students having learningdisabilities were studied. The methodology was based onthe comparison of pretest-posttest Vs control-groups. Thestatistical data included all mothers of primary-schoolstudents having learning disabilities (50 subjects) andnormal students (50 subjects) residing in the city of Ardabil,Iran. Subject selections were made through simple randomsampling method and group counselling sessions focusedon motivational interviewing were held for theexperimental group for total eight "60-minute sessions".The structure of the motivational interviewing sessions wasextracted from a prescribed prescript of group therapy. Totabulate the data; Ryff’s Scales of Psychological Well-Being,Beck Depression Inventory, and Colorado LearningDiff iculties Questionnaire were used. As per the statisticalanalysis the motivational interviewing can reducedepression symptoms and improve psychological well-being in mothers of students having learning disabilities.
