Protection - an imperative need of modern society

Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) materials are produced, transported and handled under many different circumstances, which all pose a risk to society. While so far the major incidents involving CBRN materials, including terrorist acts, have been relatively few, their impact on society could be immense.The defence against CBRN threats is based on three general principles: contamination avoidance, physical protection and decontamination. Above all, it requires expert knowledge and the right tools. The Czech National Institute for Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Protection, (regardless of the various names of its predecessors, hereinafter referred to as SUJCHBO or the institute) has more than 50 years' experience in safety and security related research, development and testing, and also state-of-the-art equipment.
