This issue of Cybernetics and Human Knowing focuses on cybernetics as a dynamic way of thinking about processes which bring the new into being. It was not, to be sure, intended as an issue with this topic as a theme. Indeed, this theme only came into being upon reflection upon what might unify thematically a rather heterogeneous group of articles. So this theme did not really exist, as a way of looking at these articles, until it was made up by this observer. Nevertheless, after making up this theme, I am not able to look at any of the articles in the same way, because it can be shown that in its own way each article and contribution examines, as well as exemplifies, a cybernetic approach to how the new is brought into being.
