Articulated dump trucks became the haulers of the '90s, establishing their efficiency on both large and small construction sites. According to Construction Equipment's 1999 Construction Equipment Census, the number of ADTs in use has increased by 65 percent from 1991 to 1999. The number of firms owning, renting or leasing articulated trucks in that time grew from 750 to more than 2,100. The reason for the increase is that earthmoving contractors have discovered that those trucks offer an economical way to move materials.
