The Principality of Monaco is that Riviera wonderland where Grand Prix racing cars speed through the streets of Monte Carlo within earshot of the world's unfathomably rich. A Dodge is as unlikely there as is a Buick Riviera or Chevrolet Monte Carlo, but, oh, the name reeks of luck and octane, thus the Dodge Monaco. The first Dodge Monaco from 1965 was a 17.7-foot-long premium two-door hardtop with a bucket-seat interior as chic as a Bond villain's lair. By 1974, the Monaco name was applied to a group of workaday full-sized Dodges three trim levels deep: Monaco, Monaco Custom, and Monaco Brougham. A Monaco could be a station wagon, a hardtop, or-in time-even an ex-Mount Prospect, Illinois, police car on a mission from God.
