Pontiac, Buick, and Oldsmobile wanted a piece of the Chevrolet Nova's business in the early Seventies-even before the OPEC oil embargo made compacts a hot commodity. Pontiac had the first Nova knockoff with the Ventura II of 1971. Buick was last to join in with Apollo introduced in mid 1973. Oldsmobile got in a little sooner with its Omega announced at the beginning of the '73 model year.
