William Porter: Moving the Mainstream Part I

On January 6, 2017, retired General Motors designer and design educator Bill Porter "signed the beam" at Detroit's Scarab Club, a gathering place for the city's arts community since 1907. Porter's signature on an exposed wooden ceiling beam joined that of dozens of other acclaimed artists-including Isamu Noguchi, Diego Rivera, and Marcel Duchamp. The late Gordon Buehrig, who signed in 1977, is the only other car designer to have previously been so honored.
