Beyond Cognitive Metaphor Theory: Perspectives on Literary Metaphor

One of the curious aspects of this book is its title, and what one might have expected from it. "Beyond cognitive metaphor theory" tends to suggest an advance on cognitive metaphor theory and "perspectives on literary metaphor" could conceivably refer to the means by which such an advance is to be brought about. It is not clear, however, if this is what is intended. What we have, apart from a useful introduction, are fourteen chapters, the latter divided into two sections, with six chapters devoted to "indigenous non-cognitive approaches to metaphor" and eight chapters devoted to "cognitive metaphor theory and literary analysis".
