Even though companies across the United States have been implementing plans to reduce energy usage and waste products for years, the Wal-Mart decision to get onboard must be recognized as one giant step for the planet. Corporate motivation, however, is not all selfless. Actions as simple as replacing incandescent bulbs with florescent lamps and reprocessing wastewater also have a halo effect. They are good for the bottom line.
