WITH ITS DRAMATIC colors and unusual shapes, the National Children's Museum will almost certainly distinguish itself from the more traditional glass and brick buildings that define National Harbor, a 300-acre mixed-use development along the Potomac River just south of Washington, D.C., in Maryland's Prince George's County. Intended to be playful without being kitschy, the museum will comprise a cluster of interconnected pavilions that are designed to capture the imagination of children and their families while serving as functional and inspiring museum space.
