Meet the Chief

I had arranged to meet the Chief, Graham Wright, on a sunny Sunday afternoon for what turned out to be a very comprehensive tour of this very interesting building. On meeting Graham we immediately retired to the comfort of the Managers Office for refreshment and a chat. Graham had been working as an electrical engineer in the shipping industry for some time before becoming involved with cinemas. Harwich itself is of course an important port with many ferry and cruise ships calling every year. "During the 1970s and 80s many ships used 16mm as a source of entertainment. Being before the days of video projection, very good pictures were exhibited in small theatres usually operated by members of the crew with minimal training. My job was to perform maintenance of the projection system, typically provided by portable Eiki 16mm projectors with just a 250 watt tungsten lamp. Generally, picture quality was superior to what is obtained today even with DMD projection technology.
