China's new towns

The continuous economic growth in China is accompanied by increasing urbanization of the Chinese population. In spite of the lively construction work that is primarily responsible for the growth of the towns on the east coast of China, the pressure of the incoming country population is also necessitating the construction of completely new towns. One of these is Luchao Harbour City planned by the German architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners to the south-east of Shanghai. It will come into being during the next few years in conjunction with a new deep-sea harbour situated 30 km off the coast.%Das stetige Wirtschaftswachstum in China geht mit der zunehmenden Urbanisierung der chinesischen Bevölkerung einher. Trotz des regen Baubetriebs, der vor allem die Städte der chinesischen Ostküste wachsen lässt, verlangt der Druck der hierhin ziehenden Landbevölkerung auch den Bau komplett neuer Städte. Hierzu gehört die von den deutschen Architekten von Gerkan, Marg und Partner geplante Stadt Luchao Harbour City südöstlich von Shanghai, die im Zusammenhang mit einem neuen, 30 km vor der Küste befindlichen Tiefseehafen innerhalb der nächsten Jahre entstehen wird.
