"Why Geseke?" was one of a number of questions that kicked off this year's second ZKG student excursion. The limestone deposits on the south-eastern edge of the Münster Chalk Basin are, of course, the definitive loca-tional reason for the cement industry's presence in the Geseke region, and for the visit on 16. and 17. October 2013 by some sixty mechanical and process engineering students from Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, the RWTH Aachen University, the TU Berlin and the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences Soest to the host company, HeidelbergCement AG, sited on the ancient "Westfälischer Hellweg" trail. Academia once again met industry face-to-face, with the aim of bringing tomorrow's specialists into contact with prospective future employers in the cement sector.
