John and Eliza Blundstone arrived in Hobart, Tasmania from Derbyshire, England in 1855. John worked as a coachbuilder until 1870, when he began importing footwear from England and manufacturing boots at a factory in Hobart. The family business saw a need in the community for sturdy footwear and filled the need with their boots that worked hard and lasted forever.
