Atlanta's top driver showcases its heritage fleet

Meeting an unsung hero at the American Public Transport Association conference and Expo in Atlanta was one of the highlights of Buses correspondent Andrew Jarosz's visit to the top United States event in October. Coy Dumas Jnr was neither at the APTA annual meeting nor at the Expo showcase, but outside Hall C of the exhibition, looking after three historic buses from the Atlanta Transport Museum. Coy (67) started driving with the Atlanta Transit Company in 1971, a few years after racial segregation on buses was outlawed in the US, and moved on to Marta, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, the following year. He is now operator (that's driver this side of the Pond) No.1 in seniority, as it says on his cap badge, has a 44 years' service patch on his shoulder (waiting for it to be upgraded to 46) and a lmillion miles accident free patch as well.
