Asector of the bus market crying out for electrification is the city tourist business, especially all-year destinations where the volume of business is high enough to justify investment in more expensive vehicles. The nature of the work favours electric vehicles, as mileages are low, speeds are slow and there is sufficient stop/start operation for regenerative braking to top up battery capacity. Zero-emission vehicles will also diminish the impact of tourism in sensitive city centres where the procession of open-top double-deckers can go down badly with year-round residents.
