The U.S. state of New Mexico has its first working geothermal power plant. The Cryq Energy Lightning Dock geothermal plant, located near Animas in the southwest of the state, began production on December 24th and is generating about 4 MWe. Cryq Energy hopes to develop the site to its full potential and construct a power plant capable of generating up to 20 MWe. The company has an agreement in place with local utility PNM of New Mexico to provide 10 MWe.
