On 26 May the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations (CPRs) and the Business Protection from Misleading Marketing Regulations (BPRs) came into force. The rules are part of the process of harmonising laws across the European Union but they may worry some in the industry. Both CPRs and BPRs aim to sideline rogues and restrict unfair marketing while minimising the burden on legitimate businesses. However, as with any new law, the main worry for regulators and regulated alike is lassoing non-cowboys - or rather, "unintended consequences".
