50 proposals land at Airport Commission

Architects including Foster & Partners, Make, Gensler and Far-rells have all submitted proposals to the Airports Commission, the government-appointed group carrying out a review of thee country's airport capacity. More than 50 proposals have been sent to the commission, with the number expected to be whittled down to less than 10 by the end of the year. But the commission will not submit its final report until summer 2015 - after the next general election. Norman Foster, who favours a hub airport on the Isle of Grain, said: "Anewfbur-runway true hub airport in the Thames Estuary, at £24 billion, costs less to build than two extra runways at Heathrow."
