For many midsize construction firms leadership succession can be cause for concern. But it can also invigorate a company that's not afraid to grapple with the problem. Broadmoor LLC, a design-build company with 110 employees based in Metairie, La., just north of New Orleans, realized its next generation of executives was already on the team. "We created a group called Broadmoor Next to give our young people a platform to demonstrate their leadership skills and ability to think outside the box," says Ryan Mouledous, Broadmoor's Executive Vice President. "Most importantly, we wanted to see their willingness to assume responsibility." The main project for the 12-person team (10 men, two women): the Environment Education Classroom, which will be on display at Greenbuild in New Orleans from October 21-23. The 560-sf module will then be moved to a permanent site in the city's Lower Ninth Ward, where it will help further the work of the Center for Sustainable Engagement and Development (CSED).
