Applying new energy requirements to existing buildings can be a difficult undertaking. How do we assess the current thermal performance of the exterior enclosure of a building constructed in the 1940s? If we're replacing 10 sf of a facade, should we install an air barrier as part of the replacement system, even if the rest of the building was constructed without one?
