Aviation Century: The Early Years brings to life what many consider the most glorious years of flight

The year 2003 saw a number of books celebrating the first century of flight. Few if any are as handsome as Aviation Century: The Early Years, by Ron Dick and Dan Patterson (Boston Mills Press, Ontario, Canada, 2003, $39.95), which takes the reader through what many consider the most exciting years of flight in the past century, from 1900 to 1939. Limiting the time frame turns out to be a great advantage. Those who have written books that covered the entire century (as I have) had to do it in one volume. Authors Dick and Patterson have opted to cleverly circumvent this difficulty, and the reading public can, I'm sure, look forward to an equally handsome additional volume within a year or two.
