New appointments at The Australian Wine Research Institute

Professor Isak (Sakkie) Pretorius has been appointed to the position of managing director of The Australian Wine Research Institute effective 30 August 2004. Professor Sakkie Pretorius, previously the director of research at the AWRI (since January 2003), holds a BSc(Agric)(Hons), MSc(Agric) and PhD from the University of the Orange Free State (South Africa) and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (New York). Before commencing at the AWRI, Sakkie was the founding director of the Institute for Wine Biotechnology at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. He is also currently Professor Extraordinary in Oenology at the University of Stellenbosch, and Affiliate Professor in Oenology at the University of Adelaide.
