The growing importance of marketing

It doesn't seem very long ago that I was reading my name in the Adelaide Advertiser as a recipient of an offer to study wine marketing at The University of Adelaide. As a new arrival to Adelaide, I was awestruck by independent retailers with shelves full of iconic wines and staff with seemingly boundless knowledge. It seemed that everyone working in the wine sector had an interest in what I wanted, and the desire to help me find it. For my part, I'd arrived with the confidence of youth and the knowledge that my eight years of experience, along with a few books on the topic, would be more than enough to set me on the path for life in the wine sector.
