Policy Strategy Cooperation in the 2030 Climate and Energy Policy Framework

The European Union (EU) is at the forefront of international efforts to mitigate climate change and fight environmental degradation. Indeed, in March 2020 the European Commission launched the European Green Deal to make Europe climate neutral by 2050. The Deal provides a roadmap with actions aimed at promoting the efficient use of resources by moving to a clean and circular economy, restoring biodiversity, and reducing pollution. The new 2030 climate and energy policy framework for the period 2021-2030 (European Council, Conclusions - 23/24 October 2014) is part of the ambitious European Green Deal. The framework commits the EU to cut at least 40% in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from 1990 levels, to obtain at least 32% share for renewable energy (RES), and to improve energy efficiency by at least 32.5%.
