Town grove as a second living room

To improve the appearance of the core area around the town's "main square" (which still seems like a thoroughfare) and the well-known Porcia Castle, the Carinthian district capital Spittal an der Drau, staged a competition in 2017. Gasparin & Meier Architekten won the building commission with a concept that, while uncompromising, reiies on thoroughly modest means for its implementation. The first stage of the project, completed last autumn, deals with the town hall square -which lies between the east side of the town hall, originally built as the residential palace of the Khevenhiiller family, and a newly constructed commercial building.
