Casa Quindio

I had designed a house in a warmer climate for this client, located at around 1,000 m above sea level. He asked me for a simpler but more alternative house. It was a very simple floor plan with a patio in the center and a corridor all around this patio. Eucalyptus poles from reforested wood were used for the columns and bamboo Guadua for the roof structure. We utilized the green roof by using living grass, and rainwater is collected in the inner patio using the roof's slope. In the pond, there are fishes and aquatic plants; the fishes eat the insect larva. I saw green roofs using living grass for the first time in Norway many years ago, in very old homes. I became obsessed with this, but I will not make them anymore. They need too much water.
