INTEROPERABILITY IN SPORTS DESIGN

摘要

From early on in the design process of Dublin's Aviva Stadium (2010), a reference for the detailing, execution and overall design of the building was a Swiss watch. The beauty lies in the detail of individual parts, the relationships between the parts, and the functionality and elegance of the watch as a whole. A Swiss watch is appreciated from both near and afar, and thus its admiration is scale-less. It was these traits and design appreciation that Populous tried to capture in the design of the stadium. Each part had its own function and beauty, yet through the relationships established by the computational design process each part also maintained an association with all other parts of the building, allowing the architecture to be more than a collection of singular building elements and become a beautiful functioning whole.
