The formation of rings composed of uniformly sized triple-walled carbon nanbtubes has been demonstrated and characterized by high resolution transmission electron microscopy. These rings are found in the products from acetylene decomposition on Fe/MgO catalyst in a fluidized bed. This finding expands the libratory of building blocks based on nanotubes and demonstrates the existence of crystalline structures from complex multiwalled carbon nanotubes.
