In recent years, one reccurring theme has dominated the wireless infrastructure industry — cost reduction! It's always been apparent that the RF power amplifier represents a large part of the cost of a wireless base station. As capacity requirements drive a need for higher power and linearity, PA costs have a natural tendency to increase. However, PA designers have attacked these costs through infusions of technology in ways that remind us of Moore's law and the technical advances of digital electronics.
