Formation of peracetic acid during peroxide bleaching of mechanical pulps

Based on the evidence from ~1HNMR,it was concluded that peracetic acid is formed during peroxide bleaching of mechanical pulps.The development of the in-situ generated peracetic acid during peroxide bleaching of a TMP pulp was followed with the idometric titration method.The results showed that peracetic acid is rapidly generated and consumed during the course of the reaction.The potential impact of the in-situ generated peracetic acid on the brightness gain during peroxide bleaching is discussed.
