The International Statistical Institute (ISI) was established in 1885 as the successor of the International Statistical Congresses, first held in 1853. The ISI is a nonprofit, nongovernmental, membership-based society with the primary goal to promote, gather, and disseminate information about statistics throughout the world and to enable members from developed and developing countries to meet and exchange their views about the latest statistical developments. This goal is achieved by organizing several international conferences and publishing various publications, such as ISI Newsletter, International Statistical Review, and Short Book Reviews.
