Water Sector Security and Preparedness

The tragic events of Oklahoma City and Sept. 11, 2001, pushed the security of our nation's critical infrastructure to the forefront. By the same token, events like Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy revealed the need for these same infrastructure systems to be resilient. This requires a balance as described in the Water Sector Specific Plans vision statement that calls for "... a layered defense of effective preparedness and security practices." The standards outlined in this article enable utilities to embody that vision.
